HKB extended support to 47 democrats and their families, and felt very sad and indignant at the suppression of the totalitarian government. Democracy and freedom are the universal values of the UK and the international community. The CCP regime uses corrupt military police and judicial organs to suppress people's freedom, trample on the most basic human dignity, and commit serious crimes against humanity. We hope Hongkongers in the UK will bear in mind the dangers, walk with brothers and sisters in Hong Kong, resist the infiltration of the totalitarian system all over the world, and see a democratic, free and just Hong Kong ASAP.

“One Citizen, One Letter”
Appeal for the UK Government’s Concern for the “Hong Kong 12”
One voice is alone and powerless. A chorus of many voices could make a difference. All British Citizens in or outside the UK and BNO holders are invited to write to the British Prime Minister to appeal for the UK Government’s concern for the legitimate rights of the “Hong Kong 12” who are being detained in China with no access to their families and the lawyers appointed by their families.
There are two ways of writing to the British Prime Minister.
(a) Prime Minister Office’s Email Form: Fill in the form in (https://email.number10.gov.uk/). The email is limited to 1000 characters only. A sample email is provided for reference. The content is only on the “Hong Kong 12” case.
(b) Write and post a letter: A sample letter is provided for reference. Address, salutations, and format are included. The content covers wider concerns for Hong Kong under the national security law as well as the case of the “Hong Kong 12”.
METHOD A: Sample Message to the British Prime Minister using Email Form (https://email.number10.gov.uk/)
I am writing to appeal for your concern for the “Hong Kong 12”.
On 23 Aug, 12 young HK activists were caught by China for “illegal border crossing”. The “Hong Kong 12” are still being detained with no access to the lawyers their families appointed. The families cannot contact them or have any news. From HK Police, the activists were apparently not yet “arrested” under the Chinese laws. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights also expressed concerns. What most worrying is if the “Hong Kong 12” will be treated humanely and fairly in the opaque Chinese judicial system that imposes death sentences.
Please voice out for the legitimate rights of the “Hong Kong 12” (some with British National (Overseas) status), including their rights to lawyers of their choice, contact their families, and obtain medicine. Most importantly, they should be brought back to HK for trials of any charges they might have in the common law justice system.
Thank you.
METHOD B: Sample Letter to the British Prime Minister

Dear Prime Minister,
As a proud British citizen [of County name if inside the UK - optional] originally from Hong Kong / BNO holder, I am writing to appeal for your concern for the human rights and freedoms of Hong Kong people. In particular, I would be most grateful for your consideration to give a voice for twelve young activists being detained in China (the “Hong Kong 12”), some of whom have British National (Overseas) status.
[Self-introduction - optional] Hong Kong was a free city with no fear to pursue universal values of freedoms, democracy, and human rights. Very sadly, as Your Excellency rightly pointed out this July, that the Sino British Joint Declaration has clearly been breached. Under the national security law, Hongkongers now live in fear as they are uncertain about what they do or say would cross an ill-defined “red line”. Such fear and restriction on our freedoms are spreading to the British soil. Oxford University needs to protect students by asking them to submit papers anonymously and restricting tutorials to one-to-ones on China study, according to the Guardian today.
On 23 August, twelve young Hong Kong activists (three being minors under 18) attempted to flee from Hong Kong by sea and were caught by China’s coastguards for “illegal border crossing”. More than one month later, the “Hong Kong 12” are still being detained in Mainland China with no access to lawyers appointed by their families. The families have not been able to contact or have access to any news about their detained sons or husbands. The lawyers appointed by the families were threatened by Chinese communist authorities of dire consequences to their careers. From the Hong Kong Police’s press release, the “Hong Kong 12” were apparently not yet “arrested” under the Chinese criminal laws despite the fact that they have been detained for 36 days. The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights expressed concerns for the legal rights of the “Hong Kong 12” detainees. However, the Chinese communist authorities have given no response. What most worrying is whether the “Hong Kong 12” will be treated humanely and fairly in the opaque judicial system in China, which imposes death sentences.
I am grateful that Your Excellency and your cabinet have been standing with Hong Kong on the principles of autonomy and human rights as enshrined in the Joint Declaration. I am appealing for your voice for the legitimate rights of the “Hong Kong 12” (some being BNOs) in the judicial process, including their rights to lawyers of their choice, contact their families and obtain medicine that they need. Most importantly, they should be brought back to Hong Kong for trials of any charges they might have in the common law justice system in the special administrative region.
Our British democracy cherishes checks and balances. Ironically, the democratic pillar that was built in the pre-1997 Hong Kong governmental system is being damaged by the same special administrative region officials who served the British Hong Kong administration before. Human rights violations are practiced by the same police officers who served the Hong Kong Royal Police Force 23 years ago. Many of them and their families are British Citizens or BNOs. Would this be a potential threat to national security and social harmony on British soil? I have no doubt that Your Excellency would look seriously into how this situation should be addressed and rectified.
Last but not least, I express my gratitude to Your Excellency and your cabinet for providing a generous BNO pathway to citizenship. No doubt, those Hong Kong BNOs who believe in freedoms and democratic values and choose to come to Great Britain will seek to be assimilated into and contribute to development of the global British community.
Thank you very much for reading this appeal.
Yours faithfully,
